Kakul Villa Ubud

We went back recently just to eat at the restaurant, and the food was amazing again. During our stay at Kakul Villas last year, the garden, pools, and traditional villas were beautiful, clean, and well kept. The restaurant was a delight, with gorgeous food and such friendly staff. Sutri, a young gentleman who worked at the restaurant, was welcoming, helpful, and knew the surrounding area well. He also organized a beautiful Wedding Anniversary dinner for us. The place felt magical, and we enjoyed the stay so much. We’ll be back. 10/10 ❤️

We’ve been in Bali for three months, and this is the worst place we’ve had the misfortune of staying in. We’re leaving early because the problems have made us absolutely miserable. It’s damp and musty, with ants and cockroaches in and outside the bedrooms. The rooms are dark and depressing, and the dusty furnishings aren’t properly cleaned. The photos are misleading, the place looks completely different in person. There’s a chicken farm next door that stinks, with constant repetitive noise. The bathroom floods after a shower because the floor is poorly designed and the drains are blocked. Hot water runs out after three minutes because the boiler is small. Breakfast is poor and tasteless, and the boiled eggs came with chicken poo still on the shells. The bedroom furniture stinks. When we arrived, the hob cooker was dirty, so we had to clean it ourselves. Then it fell through the hole because it wasn’t connected properly. They glued it in, and our room smelled of glue for the rest of the day. The picture frames, lamps, and bed frame are extremely dusty and gross. It’s rated three stars, but doesn’t deserve even one. It should be minus 10 or closed down by trading standards. Good luck if you plan to stay here, you’ll need it. There are plenty of places at the same price or less with much better quality and clean living conditions.

The rooms are small, and the only window is tiny, so very little light comes in. The location is good and the hotel looks nice at first, but once you’re staying there, the rundown condition becomes obvious. It’s a small, charming place, but very old and badly in need of renovation. The furniture is outdated, towels are worn and yellowed, and the bathroom walls and ceiling are deteriorated. Cleaning is done daily, but it’s superficial: the bathroom sink still had hair in it. It’s okay for a short stay if location matters more than comfort, but it needs maintenance and renovation.

The only real plus is the location. It’s cheap, around 450k IDR per night, and there are lots of other places to look at in Ubud, so there may be better options. We were in the room next to the main pool, and its bathroom smelled really bad. We asked to move, but the bedroom in the other room smelled bad too. Breakfast is included, but keep your expectations very low. At best, this is a 3 star hotel.
