Hotel Puri Tempo Doeloe

The staff were a joy to meet, all so kind, friendly and ready to help. Breakfast had plenty of choices and came with that gentle Balinese charm. We had a wonderful stay and hope to return. Our suite was roomy and well equipped, with the biggest, most comfortable bed I can remember.

Pusparini at reception was incredibly sweet and friendly. I asked for her name myself, she didn’t ask me to write a review. The grounds were pretty, the room was very spacious, and cleanliness was generally good. I don’t regret staying, but the room needs renovation. The old air conditioner was so noisy it seriously disrupted my sleep. Gaps in the room let in lots of mosquitoes every night, and I had to kill cockroaches three or four times, even though I never left the door open. Those problems are why I can’t give a high score. The location is okay, but heavy rain floods the roads to the hotel even when Sanur’s main street is dry, making transport difficult. The back gate is closed at night, which is terrible and makes getting around in the evening much harder.

It’s a quiet, authentic neighborhood with little restaurants and cafes between the hotel and the beach, and it isn’t crowded with tourists. The busier beach area and Icon shopping centre are just a stone’s throw away. Inside the hotel compound, the setting is wonderful, and the staff know your name. There’s also a back gate that shortens the walk to the beach.

They moved us to a room with a pool after our AC stopped working, and that turned into an amazing stay. The grounds are lovely and calm, with traditional terracotta, lawns, and spacious vintage rooms that feel relaxing. It’s peaceful, and an easy walk to the beach. We ate lunch at the restaurant every day, and each meal was a pleasant surprise. It’s the best restaurant in Bali, with amazing food. The back gate has an unusual sign about getting lost in a new dimension beyond it. Funny enough, that’s exactly how it felt.
