Rumah Taman

We only booked Rumah Taman as a stop between our original accommodations, then liked the simple setup enough to stay one more day. It’s quiet here, set back from the roads, and people seem to respect that. We could walk into central Ubud or head toward the rice fields. There’s a nice kitchen for small meals, though we ordered from Gojek every day because there’s plenty of good food nearby and we wanted to eat in peace. The room is basic but had what we needed, and it was about as clean as our own home, assuming you keep a fairly clean home. Staff were very quick to respond whenever we messaged, at any time. Breakfast is free and very simple, toast, jam, chocolate spread and fresh fruit. They brought it out to the little garden in the morning, which was cute. Coffee, tea and sugar were there for us to help ourselves during the stay.

I had a great three-night stay, and the hand towel was a lovely extra. This was the only guesthouse I stayed at in Bali that provided one. It’s a quiet spot for morning walks and still felt safe, with lots of good cafes around, though it is a bit away from the main area. The room was bright and private, with a kitchenette and its own water dispenser. There wasn’t a kettle, but there was a pot to boil water. The WiFi was good enough for me to work comfortably in the room all day. Made and Pasek were friendly and helpful, and you can reach them on WhatsApp if they’re not at the front desk. My only small issue came at 11:30 pm when the AC remote gave me trouble and I couldn’t get hold of any staff. Owner, maybe consider having another person cover the night shift, since things can go wrong in the middle of the night. Even with that, I enjoyed the stay and would come back.

We spent four nights here while rain kept falling in Ubud, so having a small kitchenette with basic utensils meant we could cook in the room. The private balcony was a nice bonus too. The room was comfortable, the bathroom clean, and the staff very welcoming and friendly. We loved it and would definitely recommend it.

The general managing staff were kind and helpful, and I liked the place otherwise, but the lack of anyone at the desk overnight was a major security concern. That feels more like an Airbnb arrangement than a hotel, and the owners should consider installing a backup generator. Power went out on two of our six nights. With the heat and no ventilation, the room became very uncomfortable. Opening the windows brought in lots of mosquitoes and bugs, and the WiFi was down too. I wouldn’t recommend it for a long stay or for anyone working remotely.
