Muraya Hotel Aceh

The rooms are spacious, the bedding was clean, and the hotel felt comfortable overall. Even though it’s near a mosque, the soundproofing was decent, so the noise usually wasn’t much of an issue. Breakfast was just okay and the selection was inconsistent. After 8 a.m., a lot of the food was already gone, with few refills. They could manage the breakfast service better. One night around 5 a.m., very loud music that sounded like religious chanting woke me up. The front desk thought another guest might have been playing it on their own device.

We slept well at Kyriad Muraya and didn’t hear the mosque. Our problems came from inside the hotel: our room was near the elevator, which made a noise whenever it stopped on our floor. The electricity also went out about four times, and each time it came back, the TV switched on. Its socket was behind the TV, so we couldn’t unplug it without the remote. We ordered room service, too. The fries in one dish were cold, though the spaghetti was good. We’d recommend Kyriad if those two issues are sorted out.

Check-in was quick, and the staff were friendly. The lobby and room are both spacious, with plenty of seating in the lobby. Breakfast was great, including a “jamu” lady serving healthy herbal drinks. We also ate at Daud Terrace Cafe in the hotel. It was empty while we were there, but the food was certainly good. There’s ample parking as well.

The room smelled of cigarettes even though it was meant to be non-smoking, which was really disturbing. They only left a large towel; I had to ask before they’d provide hand or smaller towels. They gave us one key card. When we asked for a second, they wanted a deposit, even though they hadn’t asked for one at check-in. That’s a weird process. This doesn’t feel like a four-star hotel, and there’s a lot to improve.
