West Point Hotel

My assistant booked this because it was the closest hotel to Grand Sudirman Ballroom, where our company expo was held. I checked Google Reviews the day before traveling and was horrified by reports of cockroaches and stained sheets. The booking couldn’t be refunded, so I asked to inspect the rooms before checking in. The first room smelled strongly of what seemed like insecticide. The sheets were stained and greyish, the pillows looked very worn and, sorry, a bit disgusting, and the wallpaper was torn in places. The air conditioning was warm. After I complained repeatedly at the front desk, the staff member connected me with his supervisor. The supervisor was kind and patient, but said management wouldn’t cancel the booking and could only upgrade all our rooms to executive rooms. The upgrade helped with the smell and air conditioning, but the sheet in my room still looked very dirty. Housekeeping went through four or five sheets before finding a clean one. And then there were the cockroaches. After standing for eight hours at an expo booth, I came back exhausted to find a nest of them in the bathroom. I didn’t dare take a photo of the nest, but did photograph some of the cockroaches in there. Breakfast was bland, the pre-cooked eggs were cold, and the knives for jam and butter had ants on them. I told the waiter, who brought a new knife but left the old ones there. The routes to the hotel were inconvenient and not pedestrian-friendly. Please avoid.

Check-in and checkout were quick, and the room was okay. The breakfast buffet wasn’t very good and didn’t offer many choices. It’s on the outskirts of Bandung, a bit far from popular tourist areas like Braga, though Trans Studio Bandung is fairly close.

The smell was awful, and the linen was awful too. There were very few amenities, and no proper table for working on a laptop. I ended up using the bedside table and sitting on the floor. The room looked so much worse than the photos that I wondered if it was a scam. I skipped breakfast after such a terrible night, so I can’t comment on it. For me, this doesn’t deserve a four-star rating. It was pricey for what I got, and I’m sorry, but it wasn’t worth that status.

The room could use a couple of tweaks. Light still came through the window no matter how I adjusted the blind, so it should extend farther to cover the whole window. The bathroom has room for people, but the soap tray is tiny, about the size of a saucer, and barely fits my three toiletry bottles. I liked the lounges, plural, since there seemed to be one on every floor. They felt open and natural, and the waterfall decoration was superb. The floor layout also made the halls feel airy. For the price, it’s a good hotel.
