Pacific Palace Hotel

The hotel looks fancy, though it's a bit old. My room had a stale, bad smell, and when I told the staff, nothing was done.

Breakfast had a terrific range of dishes, and the hotel itself is elegant with clean, spacious rooms. The only letdown was the minibar freezer, which seemed poorly maintained. Since we stayed just one night, it was too late to call the lobby and get it fixed.

The staff were quite nice and smiley, but I had to cut my stay short for a few reasons. My first room, 608, smelled damp, the air-con seemed moldy, the duvet had stains that might have been mold, blood, nail polish, or paint, and the shower floor had mold and stains. I asked to move rooms. Room 721 was just as damp and had a strong air freshener smell. The glass doors to the pool-facing balcony wouldn't close tightly, so noise came into the room. I also noticed mold on the air-con units in the corridors. The air freshener smell was already strong in the lobby, and even stronger in the rooms. It gave me an allergy and a blocked nose. I'm sure the hotel manager noticed the damp, moldy smell and tried to cover it with air freshener, but that didn't work for me. A dehumidifier might be worth trying. If you have allergies like I do or skin that's sensitive to mold or fungus, make sure your room has a dehumidifier or isn't too damp. The interior design made me think this was a luxury hotel two decades ago, but it doesn't seem to have kept up with recent changes and isn't well maintained. It looks close to the harbour bay terminal, but it's outside the terminal, mall, hotel, and shop complex. Even though it appears nearby on Google Maps, walking around isn't convenient, so you need to take Grab.

We finally stayed here after wanting to for a while. The price had kept us away until it dropped with low demand. We even drove all the way around to check whether the ship-looking building was a real vessel on shore, and discovered it was only a facade. Our room was clean and spacious, with an iron and ironing board, and the TV right across from the bed. The layout also gave us a nice view of the sunlight. Staff were always smiling and offered great service. We even got breakfast while staff put on a performance for guests. The hotel is easy to find on the main road, with plenty of parking, especially along the sides and at the back compared with the front. There's a buffet spread too, though I forgot to take photos. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it, especially when the price comes down. It depends on getting the right price for us. Cheers!
