The setting is what made this stay for me. The cottages sit in a green valley full of plants, with fish ponds and little streams nearby. Falling asleep to running water and insects was relaxing, and the place looks beautiful wherever you turn. I paid less than IDR 300K per night without breakfast, so for that price the natural atmosphere felt worth it. There's a nice, fairly clean swimming pool, but the cafe beside it was empty and closed. The only other cafe opened at 10 AM and offered just one breakfast choice, Nasi Goreng. The place used to be called "Maniva Particael" Resort and is now "Kaluna Resort". Maybe it was sold or the management changed. It has potential, but seems to have seen better days. It may be difficult for elderly guests: there are many stairs on the valley terrain, one room had a slippery bathroom, and when it rains it's hard to get anywhere outside your own cottage. The cottages are separated, and I think each has two rooms, though we were in different ones. Inside, the room was okay but needs a lot of fixes. The curtain rail and sliding door rail were stuck, the manual door key was hard to lock, and the washbasin cabinet looked termite-damaged but had just been repainted. They used to have a card key, but it may not work anymore. The bathroom wall looked messy and dirty, with bamboo pieces and ugly gaps. We found a gecko (tokek) in the room and called staff to shoo it away 😅. I only saw two staff members, perhaps that was everyone there, and both were kind, responsive, and helpful. Credit to them. There used to be a phone in the room, but it has been removed, so you have to message or call their WhatsApp number for anything. Each room had a smart TV with an active Netflix account, which was a big plus, and free Wi-Fi, though it lagged badly in the morning, maybe because lots of visitors were using it. There are plenty of things to improve, but the natural surroundings really were beautiful, as in my photos. It needs a lot of maintenance.

We extended our booking by another night and wished we could have stayed longer. The rooms are spread through a spacious, leafy garden, and we slept really well. We booked for one night to get away from traffic noise, and it delivered. We felt relaxed as soon as we arrived. It's set back from the busy main road, with eateries, small convenience stores, and some theme parks within a short ride or walk. We didn't get to visit the parks. The manager, Pak Kris, was warm, kind, and caring. He surprised us with traditional savory snacks I hadn't tasted in more than 30 years. Thank you for having us. We'd stay again if we return to Batu and would recommend it to friends and family traveling in the Malang region.

The beds were a real high point, roomy enough for two adults and two children, very cozy, and there was a power outlet right beside them. The AC worked well too. In the cabin there was an electric kettle with tea, coffee packets, and sugar, though no mini-fridge. Food was another plus: Bakmi Jawa and Kwetiau arrived fresh at our door within 30 minutes. The noodles had a great texture, neither too chewy nor too sweet, and the Kwetiau used top-quality rice noodles. Still, the cabin's wood construction brings some rough edges: spider webs, dust, creaky floors, and nails poking out of planks. I didn't encounter bugs, though mosquitoes might visit now and then. The dust and webs are hygiene issues, and they're easy to see, so I wondered why staff hadn't cleaned them first. I could have dealt with them myself, but they shouldn't have been left there. The shower area left me unsure. Part of it is bamboo, which lets air circulate well without an exhaust fan, but the whole space felt unusually moist. Hard to describe, though noticeable. Kaluna has the cafe side down, while the resort side could use more care. It's a charming rustic escape, but expect that extra natural cabin feel. Thanks for the memorable stay, Kaluna. I hope the cabins get improved.

I spent two nights here after a friend recommended the resort. The cottage had two queen beds, and with all the trees around it, I felt like I was sleeping in a forest. You can hear insects, birds, and the little stream. It was peaceful and relaxing, a lovely fit if you enjoy nature and quiet, away from the city's bustle.

It's a quiet place, though there's room for improvement.
