Teratai Beach Hotel Batukaras

The one good thing is the location, right in front of Batu Karas beach. Check the hotel in person before booking, because the advertised photos don’t match what I found, and may be from when it first opened. The building isn’t maintained, the AC didn’t work, and the room was dirty and humid. There were no toilet supplies, and the toilet itself didn’t work. Even though we arrived around 16:00, the room wasn’t ready. Very disappointing.

We were disappointed. The place looked nothing like the advertisement, and I wouldn’t recommend it. The rooms were damp, dim, and had dirty walls. Some ceiling panels weren’t fitted properly and had come away from their frames. The pool water was brown, like a river during rainy season.

I first stayed here in 2011, and for years I kept choosing it because it was so close to the beach and affordable. When I returned a couple of years ago, I was impressed by the upgrades: new buildings, modern rooms with AC, and new cottages. I stayed one night in a two-storey cottage with my big family, paid a bit more, and felt it was reasonable for the improvements. It was a great stay, and I gave the hotel five stars then. On this latest holiday visit, though, it was high season and I got an older room for about 900rb, with minimal facilities, one king-size bed and one single bed. The bathtub was broken, so I used a bucket to hold water, and the shower didn’t work. There were no towels or tissue in the room. I’m giving three stars now, but I think it could earn five again. I hope management improves further and is wiser about pricing. Thank you.

Don’t trust the photos, go and check the place yourself. The hotel was awful and spooky, and felt unfit for guests, like an abandoned building. A big no.
