Billiton Hotel & Klub

We stayed for two nights in March 2020, and the central location was what we liked most. Lots of places were within walking distance, including Warkop Kong Djie Coffee (the first shop), Soto Belitong Mak Janna, Kedai Kopi Ake, Mie Belitong Atep, and Tanjung Pendam beach. There were two things hotel management could improve. The AC in our room dripped, and the hotel only gave us a cloth to catch the water. Nothing concrete was done during our stay. Also, the night shift receptionist should have spare change for guests paying fees when they check out early. We had to wait while they found small change for our expenses. Aside from that, the hotel was still okay to stay in.

The hotel is good value, with clean, simple rooms, classy decor, and good service. It’s centrally located just off the main, and only, roundabout in Tanjung Pandan. The property was put together from three buildings from different eras of Belitung mining. There’s a folder in the room where you can read about their history. Reception can help arrange island hopping and other tours. The hotel is part of the group that owns Billiton Eco-Tent, so guests can visit that private resort for meals or to use the beach.

The pool is small and, in my opinion, not clean. I can't be 100% sure the water caused it, but I got hives for about an hour both times I swam there. Swimming elsewhere didn’t give me any problems, so I won't use this hotel again. The rooms were an okay size and clean, and the bed and airco were okay too. The buffet breakfast was acceptable, and the hotel is well located with friendly staff.

The room had an unpleasant smell and wasn’t clean enough, though I can see how staff might be able to address both issues. That seems understandable in an old historical building. The location is strategic, the room is spacious, and the service is great. Overall, a must try!
