Eloprogo Art House

The view is magnificent, with Mt. Sundoro/Sumbing behind the meeting of the Elo and the Progo rivers. The place brings traditional and natural elements together in an artistic, authentic style.

Give yourself time to sit quietly under the trees, listen to the river moving over the rocks, and take in the beauty here. Eloprogo is a one-of-a-kind place, tucked down a dusty road through a modest residential neighborhood on Borobudur’s outskirts. It stands on the high bank where two rivers meet, surrounded by jungle landscape. So much thought and imagination went into its design and construction, and you can feel the love behind it. Go while it’s still there. Spend a while with a cool drink, listening. Just be. You’ll be glad you made the trip.

The food is simple, generously portioned, and cooked with care. The Ayam Kampung was delicious, and the fresh orange juice was so sweet and tangy it didn’t need sugar. Sonny, the resident artist, designer, and owner, showed us around the grounds and led us to a special spot for meditation. Eloprogo Art House sits at the meeting point of the Elo and Progo Rivers, with pristine surroundings and clear views of both Mt Sumbing and Mount Merapi. The creatively built facility has a strong spiritual quality. I rarely give five stars, but this is a rare find. It’s a powerful place for insight, perspective, and confidence in your life’s direction.
