Borobudur Balkondes Wanurejo

The staff were very helpful, and this comfortable outdoor event venue was affordable. But when we booked, nobody told us there would be an extra parking charge of IDR 3,000 per motorcycle. We thought parking was included as a Balkondes facility. After negotiating, we paid IDR 50,000 in parking fees.

Come on a pleasant afternoon and stay through sunset for the wonderful scenery, with Borobudur temple directly in view. There are lots of joglo, traditional Javanese lounges where you can sit, eat, and take in the view. The food was average, but very cheap. The place is also wonderfully airy.

There’s a free entrance to Balkondes, and I really love the sunset spot with Borobudur temple in the background. The view of Menoreh hill is an added bonus, and the temple is about a five-minute drive away. The cafe serves traditional food and drinks, but closes at 17.00. Nearby there’s also a local attraction with old cars and other kinds of transport, a Junkyard. You can get an ice cream from the place in front for 5000 idr and enjoy it while you spend the day here. It feels dramatic and romantic. Some spaces are available to rent, and the toilets are clean.

A nice place for a family gathering or just to relax. It’s quiet, and could be a great spot to spend time or read a book.
