La Numa Villas Canggu

We left feeling taken advantage of. Our flight was cancelled, so we arrived a day late. We had contacted the hotel a month ahead to ask about changing the dates, but they refused, and offered neither a refund for the missed night nor any compensation. The villa photos mixed pictures of different properties, which set the wrong expectations. The one we were given disappointed us, so we asked to move. They offered another villa for an extra payment, which we accepted, but its pool was dirty and never properly cleaned despite several requests. My husband got an ear infection, needed a doctor and antibiotics, and our vacation was badly affected. During our two-week stay, towels were changed only every three days and the bed linen wasn't changed at all. On Friday evening, staff had a company party in the lobby and on the lawn right in front of our villa, with loud music, drinking and noise late into the night. The next day, after particularly poor cleaning, we found a so-called complimentary bag of trash left on our sofa. We also had a late flight and the villa wasn't booked, yet they asked for 50% of the nightly rate for a slightly later checkout. Basic respect for guests seemed to be missing throughout.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the place is close to Echo Beach, markets and restaurants. Still, I wouldn't make it my first choice for another stay. Our one bedroom grand villa felt dated, and the photos were somewhat misleading. The bathroom was a bit mouldy, there were lots of misquotes, and we had trouble with mice getting into the room.

We've returned to La Numa Villas twice, and both trips were excellent. There's lots of space for our family of five, the service is outstanding, and the location works perfectly for surfing. Plenty of good restaurants are nearby, along with laundry and gym facilities.

We got several mosquito bites after checking in, but it improved once we asked the staff to spray repellent while we were out. The villa is spacious and beautiful, breakfast is served daily, and the staff are attentive. The location is handy for a pharmacy, convenience stores, La Brisa Sunday Market, La Brisa, COMO Beach Club, Echo beach for relaxing or surfing, and lots of nice places to eat. It'd be perfect without the mosquitoes and with toothbrushes and room slippers provided.
