The Lonceng Canggu

The worst accommodation I’ve ever stayed in. There was no hot water, and the room flooded every time. I was moved three times because each room had mould, and somehow each one was worse than the last. The owner first said I’d get a refund, then changed his mind. I feel sorry for the staff working there. It seems the owner doesn’t put money into maintenance.

I couldn’t get any sleep. There was constant noise, especially from what I think was a water pump right above my room, switching on and off every 30 seconds. The room was okay, the bed comfortable, and the basic bathroom had hot water. The staff felt very average and mediocre, like they were following a script on autopilot. If you’re hoping to sleep, avoid this place.

I only stayed one night and don’t plan to return to Canngu. The bedding was great, but I barely got to enjoy it because other guests were noisy from dusk to dawn. Drunk people kept coming and going and waking me up; someone beeped a horn right outside my room, and there was a lot of noise from what sounded like a heavy metal object or gate being moved. The room wardrobe had locks, which was good, but one fell apart as soon as I tried to use it. The problem wasn’t really the place itself, but the culture there. It felt exhausting, with so many selfish, inconsiderate people.

The staff are lovely and always ask whether you want the room cleaned. The wifi was good enough for remote work, and I liked having a kitchen to make breakfast. The shower was hot and powerful. The beach, surf, bars, clubs, and restaurants are all walkable, and it was quiet enough to sleep. Rooms are bright and spacious. The pool is deep, so it may not suit kids. I love this place.
