I booked through Agoda and got a great deal. We chose the unit with a private pool, and I was glad we did. I had a wonderful stay, though there are some maintenance issues that should be addressed. The unit is a bit far from Kuta by taxi or Grab, but it worked well for our routine: I'd head out exploring Bali around 10 or 11 during the day, come back around 8 or 9, then hang out and talk by the pool. For the rate and amenities, I'd still recommend it, as long as the issues get fixed soon. The unit is large, with spacious rooms, comfortable beds, cold air conditioning for the hot weather, a bathtub, and hot water. Each room has a TV and wardrobe. The kitchen is fully equipped with gas, pots, and pans, the fridge worked after being fixed, and there was a nice dining table made from what looked like natural wood. WiFi worked well. The pool is large, and its motor usually runs from 7 to 10 and from 12 to 5. The caretaker said it is cleaned weekly, though without a roof, it can look dusty or dirty at night when dust or other things get in. Nyoma, the caretaker, showed us around, explained how to lock up, and was quick to answer questions or sort things out. She cleaned the unit and changed the towels daily, so there were always fresh ones. When the power went out, she checked and fixed it, and the owner was informed and messaged me too. Breakfast was eggs and toast for the first two days, then Indomee and egg on the third. She's a great cook, and they brought coffee and other extras when I asked. The hospitality was great. There's a little parking space at the side. The main gate is usually locked, but you generally have a key if you're bringing a scooter or car. It's in a housing area with some businesses nearby. There's a laundry shop across from the homestay and a few restaurants along the main road, about a 10-minute walk or 500 m to 1 km away. Further along, you can get to Starbucks or Alfamart. There's also a futsal area beside the building and, I think, a karaoke center next door. I hadn't noticed the many negative Google reviews before booking, since things looked positive on Agoda. Some concerns were clarified when we arrived: there was gas, WiFi worked, and the pool was clean. Still, the unit is old. My wardrobe seemed to be coming apart, and I thought there might have been a termite problem in the past, though I'm not sure. The plug points in my room didn't work. The toilet was clean, but stained, and its age showed. The pool was nice but old too. The toilet shades or window blinds were broken. The outdoor shower wasn't clean, which makes sense given that it's outside.
