Mangga Bungalow

I liked the pool and the old Bali feel of the place, a bit like a hippie hangout. It’s only a five-minute walk to the beach. Warung Amphora is worth a try for excellent fresh seafood right on the sand. When you get to the beach, turn right and go past the turtle rescue place. Medi arranged laundry for me in a day and transport to the airport at 4:30 am. Tell them “no fragrance” for laundry, or your clothes will smell sickly sweet. His driver cost more than Grab, but at that hour I didn’t want to take the chance. A good bargain if all you need is an air-conditioned room.

Medi, who runs the place, is so friendly and helpful. The rooms are dated but clean, and have everything you could ask for at this price. I especially liked the patio pool under the cambodia tree, with flowers dropping into the water. Medi keeps the pool clean.

The room was well looked after, and the people were lovely. Staff even got breakfast ready early for my day trip and helped sort out transport. The bathroom gets soaked when you use the shower, and the hot water wasn't reliable, but everything else was great. Most things you need are just a short walk away. Keep an eye out for the entrance, it's easy to miss.

Mangga Bungalow came recommended by a friend, and it lived up to that. It's tucked along a quiet lane and feels cosy and comfortable. Madi was a great manager, helping with directions to the Sanur Night market and the Icon Mall, as well as a ride to the airport. He also makes a good hot tea. The aircon was pretty noisy, but after switching to quiet mode, setting it to 24C, turning the fan down low, and using earplugs, I could sleep with it running all night. And Mania the calico cat is adorable.
