Hotel Borobudur Jakarta

Hotel Borobudur Jakarta has a grand, classic feel that stands apart from Jakarta's changing skyline. I often use it for high-profile business meetings, conferences, and corporate gatherings, and its atmosphere always makes a strong impression on clients and guests. On my recent stay, I chose the Garden Wing Room. It was exceptionally spacious, with much more living space than newer luxury hotels tend to offer. The wooden furniture and fittings are visibly old-fashioned, but they're immaculately kept and have an authentic, nostalgic charm. The room felt like a quiet residential retreat from the busy city. The staff are professional, warm, attentive, and efficient. The 23-acre tropical garden is a beautiful oasis, and the hotel also has modern meeting facilities, high-end sports amenities, and celebrated food, including its famous oxtail soup. It remains an impressive heritage hotel with a strong sense of luxury.

The rooms could use renovation. I saw cracked wood veneer, peeling paint on the bathroom ceiling, loose wallpaper, and uneven floors that seemed to have rubble beneath the carpet. They aren't bad, but they don't match the quality of the hotel's common spaces. If the rooms aren't updated, the place risks becoming one of those faded-glory hotels, which would be a shame. The gardens are beautiful and offer a quiet escape from Jakarta's busy streets. The entrance and stately lobby feel grand, and you can spend time reading in the peaceful gardens or visit the excellent spa and gym. Breakfast was great too. We had a good stay, and we'd book again if the rooms have been updated by our next visit to Jakarta.

The hotel has a large outdoor area and sits right in the heart of Jakarta, and the food was great. Some public spaces, though, smelled like old carpet. It must have felt luxurious and elegant decades ago, but now it seems worn and in need of a refresh. Room amenities weren't consistent: some had digital TV with Netflix, while others only had cable with limited channels and a remote that worked inconsistently.

The breakfast moment with Rossa (FB Service, Bogor Cafe) really stayed with us. She chatted with my two-year-old and gave her a warm chocolate drink. My little one kept saying, “Thank you Aunty, bye bye Aunty,” then gave her a hug as we left the restaurant after checking out. Such a sweet gesture. We stayed at Hotel Borobudur last week as a family, and everything felt just right from the warm welcome at the door through check-in. The lobby looked amazing with its Christmas decorations, and I found a cute towel decoration and a small birthday cake with wishes in the room. Dinner was a treat too, especially the legendary oxtail soup. Thanks to the whole team for the warmth and good work.
