HI Hotel Senen

We'd stay here again when we're in Senen. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel has a lot going for it: big, clean rooms, good WiFi, a working heater, air conditioning and TV channels that were fine. There was also a jug, kettle, coffee and tea sachets, plus a water dispenser near the lift. You need your room card to use the lift, so keep it with you for security. We had a city view from the window, and our room was on level 15. There's free breakfast with a decent range of food, and the taste was okay. You can also order reasonably priced food from the hotel. Laundry is available, with the price list on the basket in the room. There's a separate smoking area and special rooms for smokers. The location makes getting around easy, with a mall and bus and train stations nearby. The streets are busy: there's Pasar kue subuh, clothes sellers along the evening walk, and lots of food stalls at night. You can enjoy traditional live music, including karaoke. Some children sell tissues barefoot, and street singers may come by while you're eating. If you can, you can give them a little extra as a donation. All in all, we had a good stay.

I came here hoping to get a decent night's sleep, but I wouldn't recommend it. The room wasn't dark enough, so daylight woke me early, and the traffic could be heard outside because the rooms aren't soundproof. People slammed the doors around 6 AM, and the alarms went off too when doors didn't shut properly. The bed itself was comfortable, but there were cockroaches and isopods in the room. The place also seemed a bit run down, with smears and stains on the walls and furniture. I didn't sleep well, which is the whole point of a hotel.

Pretty much what you'd expect from a 3-star hotel. The restaurant was meh.

The staff made this place for me. Everyone was so friendly they all deserve a raise. The welcome drink was refreshing, breakfast was nice and enough to get me going in the morning, and the hot water worked. I gave it 4 out of 5 because I found a small dead cockroach in the bathroom. Also, the shower drain didn't work properly, so a little pool of water collected on the floor.
