Kubu Kak Dudung Villas

The breakfast was generous and good, the neighborhood was quiet, and the beach and nearby stores were within walking distance. There was even a friendly cat. The room felt small for two, with nowhere to hang clothes, and the lighting was too dim. Noise from the pool and walkway came right into the room, the showers were moldy, and the dusty bedsheets smelled like they hadn’t been washed properly. When I mentioned finding hair in the breakfast, staff only looked at me. They were friendly to my foreign boyfriend, but I, as a Southeast Asian foreigner, wasn’t accommodated.

The damaged shower heads had very weak water pressure. And with at least two or three roosters around, it was impossible to sleep in once they started screaming at 4:30AM!!!!!!

The staff did everything they could to make our stay pleasant, and they were genuinely excellent. The location is great too, and the rooms have a nice, simple traditional feel. But the toilet and shower drain were blackened, and the shower barely ran at all, especially if you wanted hot water. The small pool might have been fine, but it looked cloudy and an odd colour, so we didn't feel comfortable using it. There’s also a badminton centre close by, which made a lot of noise both at night and in the morning. We’d hoped to love the place and planned to return, but it needs some maintenance and perhaps upgrades first. Without the staff, this would have been a two-star stay.

For a cheap and cheerful stay, the location is amazing. There are fun beach breaks down the road, and good food nearby. If you can, try the all-you-can-eat sushi and sashimi at the intercontinental hotel on Sunday night. The staff were helpful, and the family were lovely. It’s just a short walk from a place where rooms cost a few thousand a night.
