Uma Budhas

A great tour by motorbike took me to lovely views. The place is a little outside busy ubud centre, which I loved, and I’ll definitely return. It was the best place I stayed during my travels, with a room that felt more like a house, an outdoor shower in the bathroom, and a great rice paddy view. There’s a swimming pool, the breakfast was amazing, and wayan and her son were kind and helpful. Good price too!

I was lucky to find this guesthouse for my first 10 days in Bali. With just three villas, a cozy pool patio, and such hospitable owners, it felt like home. The owner arranged an airport transfer for a fair price, about the same as a taxi, and helped with sightseeing suggestions and organizing a volcano trek. I was able to pay the next day, after changing money at a good money changer. The place is quiet and beautiful, with lots of palm trees and rice fields around. It’s also close to Ubud’s main busy streets, and from there it’s quick to reach nice waterfalls and other sights to the north and northeast. There are a couple of good cafes nearby, 3-5 minutes by bike, or a local price warung just 2 minutes on foot. The rooms were cleaned whenever we went out, and towels were changed daily. Breakfast was lovely, either an omelet with great Balinese coffee or tea, or a banana pancake with chocolate and fruit. Just rent it, you won't regret it.

The owners, a couple who run the guesthouse, were among the kindest Indonesians we've met. It sits right among the rice terraces, and the rooms felt fresh and very clean since the building was only about nine months old. Breakfast was delicious, especially the omelette. They can arrange scooter rentals and tours too. One of our favorite places in Indonesia, absolutely worth going.

We found Uma Budhas Guesthouse to be really good value. Our room was roomy, bright, and had a comfortable bed, plus a shower open to the sky and doors leading straight to the pool. That sunlight came in very early, though. I slept past breakfast on our first morning and felt I’d missed out, but when I mentioned it to the owner later, he brought me some leftover kue, little pandan crepes with palm sugar and coconut. The next morning I made it in time for fried noodles and tropical fruit, both delicious. The guesthouse is in a friendly village, about 15 minutes by scooter from central Ubud. I’d rented a bike, but it was broken, so I learned to check the gears on a multi-speed rental first. A couple of locals were quick to try to help me fix it. There’s no café or restaurant on site, though you can get delivery from Café Balifornia. I really liked the ayam goreng there.
