We had a lovely local stay at this family-run hotel. Comang and his wife welcomed us warmly, and the fresh food was delicious, especially the fish from the caldeira. Breakfast came with an amazing view of the caldeira too. The hot springs pool also looks out over it. It's a perfect spot for hiking Mount Batur, just five minutes away by car. Thanks to Comang and his wife for such a wonderful stay.
The price was good, and the garden is beautiful. It's a handy base for climbing Mt. Batur, and the host can drive you by jeep to the sunrise point if you want. Compared with places by the lake, there are fewer flies, though flies are normal in this region with its rich farmland. Don't let that put you off. Two large natural hot springs are very close, and the pool also has streaming hot water.
A lovely spot to relax, soak in the hot tub, and take in the view. I'd definitely stay here again.
The guesthouse manager was nice, and breakfast was okay, but I wouldn't recommend staying here or in the area. Flies are everywhere around here, which isn't the accommodation's fault, but it's hard to enjoy being outside or even the pool. The rooms let in a lot of outside noise, and as a light sleeper I couldn't get to sleep all night. It's next to a busy road. We had three rooms for four people, and a rat showed up in our friends' room. He had to move to another room at 2 in the morning.
The garden is lovely, the room and bathroom were clean and smelled fresh, and there was hot water. The owner was friendly, and breakfast was good. The busy location was a downside, even early in the morning. Also, the rooms need numbers: a tour guide knocked on my door at 3:45 am by mistake and woke me up. After I complained, the owner apologized several times and kindly offered breakfast for my daughter. I'd be glad to come back.
