The two nights at Bobocabin Kintamani were stellar, even with the difficult trip there and all the flies we’d heard about from reviews and locals. We came prepared with sticky fly candles, essential oil spray, bug spray, and other things. That kept the cabin fly-free most of the time, and meant we could use the hot tub and enjoy a BBQ outside with fewer flies and insects. It made the whole stay amazing ☺️ Service was pleasant too, despite some other reviews. Staff responded quickly when we needed something, and ordering food went smoothly, perhaps because we preordered D-1.

The room was nice and comfortable, and the location and view are spectacular. Mbak Indah at reception was especially kind and helpful. The main issue is house flies, which affect the whole lake area, not just this hotel. Also be careful choosing the access route in Google Maps. The wrong one takes you through a farm back alley on a rough, sandy, rocky path.

Getting here is the main drawback: the road is very narrow, badly damaged, steep, and uphill. Once you arrive, the view is great. There are also a lot of flies in this area, which is common because local people use natural compost for their plants. It’s due to the surroundings, not poor hygiene at the place.

Lunch was delicious, with generous portions. We had oxtail soup and honey grilled chicken after a warm welcome from Ms. Indah, who also explained the hot tub issue again. Before we arrived, a third-party representative had called to say the tub in our cabin wasn’t working and offered a complimentary chicken slice or steamboat. I’d already ordered beef slice and steamboat separately, and they offered an upgrade to an Executive room, though I thought its view was less nice. Since the tub issue didn’t bother us much, we took the chicken slice. We did get a bit lost on the way because we followed Google Maps too closely and it sent us through a small path in rice fields and plantations 😅 Double-check the route before setting out. The next morning, breakfast was the one small hiccup. They had messaged on WhatsApp to ask what delivery time we wanted, and we expected a knock like we’d had for lunch and dinner the day before. By 9:38 AM nobody had knocked, so I messaged. Staff said breakfast was already outside our cabin, and the food and drinks were no longer hot. It was a small misunderstanding, and service was very good overall. We really enjoyed our stay.

The setting is beautiful and the cabin itself is quite nice, but almost everything else felt careless and unprofessional. We’ve lived in Bali for a year and have never had such a disappointing service experience. The maintenance technician was the exception, handling a problem professionally and kindly. I gave service one star because zero wasn’t an option. On Friday, November 7, the shower water smelled strongly of sewage. Staff first dismissed it as “just the pipe,” though the technician acknowledged it wasn’t normal and suggested a fix. That evening, we clearly asked for food with no spice because we were sharing with our child, but the dishes were very spicy. The next morning, the previous night’s plates were still on our terrace table, covered in about 50 flies. We understand the agricultural setting, but leaving dishes uncleared for hours, with some still there by evening, was frustrating. Breakfast was poor. I asked for a latte and was told only black coffee was available, but they brought tea instead. The spring-water tub in our room was completely empty when we wanted to use it, and refilling it took nearly three hours. That night, a large party next to our cabin meant only four dishes were available. Nobody told guests in advance; when we asked why, we just got a “sorry.” The limited menu took an hour to arrive. Music kept playing while we tried to put our child to sleep, and party guests peered toward our cabin from both sides while we were in the spring water. There was absolutely no privacy. On Sunday morning, the music started again around 6:45 a.m. We skipped breakfast after the previous day’s experience, and the plates from the night before were still there when we checked out. Despite giving feedback throughout the stay, nobody acknowledged the complaints or offered an apology gesture. The place has potential, but staff seemed indifferent to guest comfort and feedback.
