Amaris Hotel Kuta

We enjoyed our three days here, and the breakfast was very good. The management does seem to economize on some things: you have to ask for tissues, soap, or other toiletries when they run out, the bathroom has just one light which makes shaving a bit difficult, and the room door bangs when it opens and closes.

The receptionist was the only saving grace, and even that wasn’t enough. I booked four days, but was fed up from the first day and couldn’t cancel. The AC kept breaking for no clear reason, the sink didn’t work, and the room was filthy, with cockroaches and stained sheets. I feel sick just thinking about it. I’ve never written a hotel review before, even when other places were bad enough that I could still put up with them, but this was too awful. Even a budget hotel should be clean. The facilities don’t need to be fancy, but cleanliness is basic.

You get what you pay for. I use Santika hotels often, but this is just one of the Santika series. Noise from the hallway carries into the room, even at night. The TV switched itself on several times overnight and woke me up each time, so I couldn’t get proper rest. The free WiFi is terrible. I’d suggest checking other guests’ reviews.

The manager seemed to be doing everything: cooking, cleaning, handling check-ins and check-outs, customer service, and operating the place, so staffing felt short. The room was small, old, dirty, smelly, and humid. The bathroom was worse, cramped and dirty, with water that barely worked, so we had to shower using the sink. Its lock didn’t work either. The thin walls let in noise, and the bed was so uncomfortable that sleeping was a nightmare. If you’re after a budget hotel, look elsewhere. This was the worst hotel I’ve stayed at and one of my worst experiences in Bali.
