We booked two deluxe suite-style rooms for two days, but left after the first day because we were disappointed. There was no refund. The hot water didn’t work, which meant the jacuzzi couldn’t be used automatically, and the balcony-side door wouldn’t lock. They also didn’t provide mats or hotel slippers. The rooms themselves were good, the service was good, the staff were friendly, and breakfast had plenty of variety. For a budget hotel, it’s still fairly good.

Getting around was easy from this main-road location, and breakfast was perfectly fine, though it didn’t match the high standards we came across elsewhere on the island. The major problems started as soon as we arrived. Our overseas flight from the Philippines landed late, and we waited quite a while before anyone came to greet us. The night staff eventually showed up, handed over the keys, and sent us on our way. The room felt poorly thought out for international visitors. The bathroom had heavy sliding doors and almost no privacy, with only a plastic curtain and window between the bathtub and the main hallway. There was also an unlocked hatch in the toilet area that seemed to open down to the basement. It looked like a medicine cabinet, so dropping a phone or glasses in there could be a real problem. The heavy glass and wooden interior doors were hard for my older travel companion, who has physical challenges. I saw no accommodations for that, though those are standard hospitality practice in other countries I’ve visited. Basic supplies were lacking too: we had the same bath towels for our entire stay, with no fresh ones provided. The air conditioning was unreliable. Since the power cuts off whenever you leave the room, we had to wait for it to cool down again on returning, assuming it managed to get to a comfortable temperature. Road and hallway noise carried constantly, and even the night birds seemed to get through the walls. Earplugs are a must. On a tight budget, this might be a step above a hostel, but after visiting more than 35 countries, I’ve stayed in hostels with better service. This was easily the worst part of our Bali vacation by far. I’d like to think the problems came from lack of awareness, but a place catering to international tourists needs to understand international hospitality standards. Mega Boutique fell well short of them during our stay. I hope management learns from this and from the other feedback guests have given.

I couldn’t sleep all night because the room was unclean and there was constant road noise. When we went down for breakfast at 9 a.m., nothing was left, and they wouldn’t replenish it. They also refused to give us a second room key. Don’t stay here.

We’re a family of three from Australia and wouldn’t recommend this place. We’d booked three nights, but moved to another hotel the morning after we arrived. Soon after check-in we had to switch rooms because the air conditioning wasn’t working. In the bathroom, the shower drained badly, the toilet hose leaked, the mirror was cracked, and one toilet button was broken. The bathroom sinks were dirty, and overall cleanliness was poor. A sharp piece sticking up from the floor lino cut my foot. The broken bathroom curtain also meant we couldn’t look out the window.

The staff were lovely, the Balinese food was delicious, and the breakfast was good. The Balinese people and culture are beautiful, too. At this price, the hotel is pretty good, though it could use some upgrading. The room itself was nice, but its layout caused problems. The bathroom, shower, and toilet are separated by glass, while the tub and sink have a sliding glass panel. A mosquito sticker tells you to keep it shut. The area is mostly open, with wooden slats for privacy that also let in fresh air, but mosquitoes got in too, so we had to close the panel. The lights and AC run through the card slot: putting the card in turns everything on, but when we wanted to sleep, the AC shut off along with the lights. I had to leave the ceiling lights on all night to keep the AC going. Terrible setup.
