After booking a room at GM, I arrived to find the place full, with the only vacant room broken. They politely transferred me to NB bali guest house, but the crew there came across as punk-like and weren't as courteous as the GM staff. The room was just okay, felt a little dirty, and reminded me of a boarding house.

This might have been an okay place before the owner became an alcoholic. It was extremely dirty, and instead of keeping things quiet at night, the staff joined the drinking guests. If you want to meet some of the wildest, least cultured Indonesian people, go ahead.

A clean, comfortable spot with basic rooms and helpful staff. It's far enough from Kuta's club noise to feel calm, but still close enough to walk into the centre.

I booked through booking.com, but the online address was wrong and the place was hard to find. I called a few times, though they couldn't speak English. When I finally arrived and complained to the owner, he wouldn't let me stay. Really bad experience.
