Mamamia Island Villa

I’d look for somewhere newer and closer to the beach next time, though the staff here were genuinely lovely. They were attentive and did all they could to make our stay pleasant. We booked two villas for three days. The property sits a little out of the way, though there are restaurants within walking distance. I’d strongly recommend having a scooter, since I’m not sure what you’d do all day without one. The rooms were small but clean and comfortable enough, with no musty smell, bugs, or rodents. The bedding felt dry and nice. The bathroom was acceptable, though it could use some renovation. The bigger problem was noise. We had two villas toward the back, and after new guests arrived on the second day, we could hear almost every word from the neighboring villa. It wasn’t that anyone was being loud; the soundproofing was just poor. Worse was the wastewater pump, which seemed to be in the rear area. On our second night it kept rattling at the volume of a passing scooter. I mentioned it the next day and was told it would be fixed. It did stop running continuously after pumping, but the noise itself stayed just as loud. Whenever someone turned on a tap or flushed, it started rattling again, and we could hear it clearly in both villas. I lost two nights of sleep, and I’m really not very sensitive to noise. The towels were another familiar issue. Like in many Indonesian hotels, they were gray and stained, and really should be replaced. I wouldn’t put too much faith in Google reviews below 4.5 or Airbnb ratings below 4.8 these days. Everyone has to judge for themselves, since tastes and expectations vary so much.

We first stayed at Mama Mia villa in 2023 and returned in 2024, which says a lot. The pool was clean, and the bungalows had air conditioning and comfortable beds. There are two restaurants just around the corner, and the location worked really well for us. We also loved the Manta snorkeling trip they offer. They picked us up and dropped us back at the hotel. This time we finally saw the amazing Manta Ray, lots of tropical fish at crystal bay, and even a pod of dolphins. Such a good day. As with many places in Bali, the staff were wonderful, friendly, and always keen to help. Great value for money. Hope we can come back again!

We arrived without a booking and the hosts welcomed us warmly. The people working here really try to make things work for you, which is what makes the place special. The yard and pool are very well looked after, and you can see the hosts put real effort into maintaining them. The bathroom needs some upkeep, so I took off a star, but for the price I’d absolutely stay again. Several beaches are very close, and they rent scooters and can arrange trips if you’re interested.

I spent 26 nights here while doing my Dive Master with Twin Island Dive. It’s a quiet, relaxing set of villas with a lovely pool, and the staff made the stay. There’s no sea view, but Sandy Bay is walkable and other beaches are a quick scooter ride away. William and the team were so attentive and friendly. They noticed I left early for diving and offered to serve breakfast earlier, which they did. They seemed to make sure I was all set without any fuss. My room was cleaned every day, and mosquito coils were put outside each night. For dinner, Mamamia Restaurant is by the lagoon, and they can arrange transport. Oshii and Pan Corner are right next to the villa, and there’s a great massage place across the road. I can definitely recommend staying here.
