Sukanusa Luxury Huts

We woke to birds, the occasional rooster and loads of squirrels, which made the place feel almost rural. Coffee on the downstairs day bed was a lovely way to start the day, and the room itself was quiet with a comfortable bed and an air conditioner that worked well. There's also a little upstairs day bed for reading in the breeze. We arrived without a booking after our previous accommodation wasn't what we'd expected. They welcomed us warmly and showed us an old-school but comfortable hut, which we booked for four nights. The beach is an easy walk, with lots close by. Breakfast was very simple, but there was plenty of coffee. The pool was clean, with shaded loungers among tropical gardens, and even though it was booked out most of the time, we often had it to ourselves. The bathroom downstairs is basic but functional. If you like precise makeup and styling on holiday, the lighting may be a challenge. Stairs to the bedroom are more like a loft ladder; once you get the hang of them, going up and down feels a bit like being a kid in a treehouse. The staff were lovely, unassuming and friendly. There's a spa onsite if you don't want to wander around, and there are other options nearby, but the ladies were so sweet we couldn't go elsewhere. For someone after a modern, manicured place, there are faults to find. It's tired and has seen better times, probably before C😷19, and with time to look around, you might find better value, depending on the season. Hopefully they have plans to freshen the property up soon. Still, as a last-minute walk-in, it was a big improvement on the higher-rated prepaid accommodation we left after one night. If you want a stay that feels like stepping back in time, this place is perfect. Would I stay again? Yes.

We booked two days with breakfast, but someone at the hotel said they didn't provide breakfast and told us to complain to agoda. That was really weird. The room smelled bad, and getting between it and the washroom on the lower level was exhausting. At night the wooden stairs felt risky in case we slipped. They didn't provide mosquito spray either, and we left a day early.

The breakfast was a health hazard. The pancakes were undercooked, and ants were crawling out of the omelet and all over the plate. When I reported it, they offered to make another, but we refused. We also reported bedbugs and termites, and every time the response was a smile and a thank you, which made it seem like they didn't care or had heard it all before. We found bedbugs in the room. The bathroom was moldy, dirty and run down, and termites had eaten holes in the walls and beams, which feels dangerous in a wooden hut. The beds were good aside from the bugs, but the room was very dim. The old lamps were dirty and covered in spider webs. Downstairs, the terrace had a dirty ashtray left by previous visitors and some kind of poo all over the cabin. The pool looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. This is old, worn and not luxury at all. Please don't go there.

We stayed seven nights, and nobody cleaned the bathroom or changed the towels until we asked on day 6. There's nothing luxurious here. Breakfast was just eggs or pancakes, but the fried eggs came raw and the pancakes were undercooked, so we stopped eating there. The huts are nice, but termites keep eating the wood and it needs general improvement. The bathrooms need a revamp too, and the service needs work.
