Fantastic Gili Hostel

There was hardly any privacy, with people gathered right outside the front door. The room was basically open to the main road, with no windows, just a floor mattress and a mosquito net. The bathroom was poor, and getting upstairs meant walking on a bamboo ladder. The host could definitely make improvements.

The bathrooms were so bad that I felt cleaner skipping a shower. The upstairs room was ten times better than the downstairs one, and I might have stayed longer there if not for the bathrooms. I added a star because the staff were nice and breakfast was good, but the dorm was the worst I’ve stayed in. I’ve been traveling in Asia for six months, so I’m not new to hostels, and this was one of my worst experiences. It seems to depend a lot on which bed you get. My downstairs room wouldn’t lock, the windows didn’t close and had no insect nets, it smelled of cigarettes, and it was very noisy. I felt genuinely unsafe sleeping there. I asked to change after one night, but it was too busy. The host offered to swap me with someone else, but I declined. After two nights I moved upstairs. Other people placed in that downstairs bed after me also asked to change dorms, so this seems to happen often. Those beds should cost a lot less. Maybe it’s okay for one night, but getting a bed feels like a gamble :))

I arrived on my own and left with lots of friends and memories of adventures 🤍 Dani, thank you for everything! The staff were all amazing, and the rooftop was a fun place for karaoke and games with the family. It’s a beautiful hostel, very close to the port. The rooms are really comfortable, breakfast is included and so good, and you can refill your cold water whenever you want.

We paid rp300,000 per night in cash for a private double room, which felt like a great price. The place was clean and quiet, with no loud music while we were there. It’s close to the harbour and all the services, including laundry, but the location stays peaceful. Breakfast was nice too. Well worth staying, and I’d recommend it.
