Hotel Pelangi Malang

The best thing about Hotel Pelangi is where it is. Many attractions, restaurants, and shops in Malang are within walking distance, and we still plan to return because getting around from here is so convenient. The hotel is quite old, though, and it shows in the dated furniture, décor, and interiors. There’s also an old smell in the rooms that can be off-putting. Breakfast was a letdown, with little variety and quality below what we expected. If you want modern amenities, luxury, or a fresh atmosphere, this may not suit you. For central access, it’s practical. We hope management renovates and updates the facilities to improve guests’ experience.

It’s an elegant, simple hotel with a calm, restful feel and very friendly, helpful workers. The location is great, beside Alun Alun and Jami Masjid. There’s a swimming pool, also open to nonresidents and swimming lessons. Breakfast is adequate. We’ve stayed in better rooms at Pelangi, but room 214 had a bathroom in poor condition. The door also locked itself twice, so we had to call a worker to open it with tools. That bathroom needs refurbishment.

The reception staff were five-star friendly, but the rooms were unhygienic. The walls and ceiling were visibly dirty, and I don’t think room service cleaned the bathroom toilets. I wouldn’t recommend staying here again unless they improve the service.

The location is great, near both the city center and train station, and it’s really quiet with great service. But the pool was too dirty for us to use. The warm water took a while, and we had to ask reception before it worked. Same thing with the WiFi. We booked for three people and had to ask again for an extra bed. A few things could be improved, though the location and service are great.
