We were nine and felt like family from the moment we arrived. The place stayed clean and tidy, the staff were great, and we ate like kings. Their local advice on where to surf was much appreciated. A fantastic base in Simeulue, and one I’d happily recommend to fellow travellers. Ben and crew NZ.

We loved finding uncrowded, high quality waves and meeting such lovely people. Dylan's right is about five minutes away by motorbike, and getting around the rural island to look for surf was a lot of fun. There’s a good sized town around 15 minutes away, plus small markets about five minutes from camp. Two motorbikes with surf racks came with our stay. Our family of four spent 12 nights here in May. The spacious, clean bungalows had what we needed, including mosquito nets, two comfortable chairs, a mini fridge, and private bathrooms with hot water. From every building and around the property there are ocean views, and the gardens are gorgeous. There are also two paddleboards, a pool, hammocks, and lounge chairs. Fitri cooked three hot meals a day and was happy to accommodate our tastes. There were always several options to pick from. The service was excellent. One thing to plan for: there weren’t any working ATMs for foreigners while we were there, so get cash in Medan before travelling to Simeulue. The airport doesn’t take credit cards either, so bring cash for luggage and surfboards. We’d definitely come back.

We’d just left and already missed island life. The camp was clean and quiet, and our whole group had the place to ourselves. Ilan, our surf guide, and the staff were warm and welcoming. It’s a quick five minute drive to a great surf spot, so you’re near the action without staying right in it. We’re glad we gave Simeulue surf camp a try, even though it isn’t listed on TripAdvisor. I’d recommend it if you want to unwind, unless you’re after the other camps’ daily karaoke and “parties” for the police.

That little private beach, just a three minute walk away, was a real gem. We also enjoyed two worthwhile day trips, a waterfall and rainforest walk, and a boat ride to Minchau Island. My wife and I spent two weeks at Simeulue Surf Camp and had a wonderfully relaxing holiday. The staff were friendly, always smiling and keen to help. Our bungalow was clean and comfortable, with a good bed and mosquito net, hot shower, and DVD player. Ani made delicious authentic Indonesian meals, and the pineapple and papaya juice is worth trying. Across the bay, the rainforest covered hills looked beautiful, especially at sunset.

I went paddleboarding right out front and had a great jungle trek. The bungalows were cool and comfortable, with views over the bay. Great waves, a beautiful island, and lovely people too. I’d recommend this adventure holiday to anyone travelling through Indonesia, whether they surf or not. I’ll definitely be back. Thanks Geoff, Nanik and staff.
