Cordex Hotel Medan

There’s a small market beside the hotel, food options right across from it, and a big shopping center just over the road. Take care crossing, since traffic gets hectic and some drivers are careless. The hotel is clean, right in central Medan, and convenient for a short stop, transit, or a night before moving on. The room is simple but comfortable enough to sleep in, and it’s a practical budget option.

The bedding was old and stained, which was our one real complaint. Still, we were satisfied and would stay again. It’s a no frills place in a central spot for the price, with dark, quiet rooms, hot showers, and a comfortable enough bed. The staff were very friendly, and there’s a next door Indomaret and a coffee shop serving great coffee by at least 8am. Non-smoking rooms are available, which we need. Bring your own slippers.

The bathroom really disappointed me. It’s tiny, and the water wouldn’t drain properly after a shower. The room was small too, and although cleanliness was okay, dust was everywhere. Leave your phone on the table for a few minutes and you can see it on the screen. The closed-in room made it hard to breathe. Management should use an air purifier before renting rooms out so guests can get some fresh air. On the plus side, the price is friendly, it’s in the city center and a two minute walk from Deli Park Medan, and parking was easy and free. I booked a twin room.

Walking to malls, food, and laundry is possible, if you’re willing to deal with Medan traffic. Otherwise Grab is affordable. The central location worked well for us. Staff were smiley and friendly, check-in was quick, and there’s free drinking water in the corridor. It was dark and fairly soundproof for sleeping, with most traffic noise blocked out, though we sometimes heard other guests slam doors. The corridor smelled of smoke, and sometimes the room did too, so it may not suit anyone sensitive to that. Bedding and towels looked worn out and yellowish, and need replacing.
