The room was filthy, with hair, dust and dead bugs by the window and on the sill. The bedding looked questionable, the toilet was filthy, and the bathroom seemed like it hadn’t been cleaned in decades. Water from the bathroom leaked into the room and corridor, leaving dirty water everywhere. There was no sink, just a toilet and shower, and the shower was barely warm despite being meant to provide hot water. We’d booked for three adults but found only one double bed, so all three of us had to share it. There were also just two towels and two pillows. We asked around ten times for a third towel, and only just managed to get one. A staff member, a short skinny guy who looked about 12, told us we’d have to pay extra for a third pillow. We said we’d booked for three and should have three pillows, but nothing was done about it. On arrival, nobody was there to greet us, so we had to wait. Another couple was already in reception and had contacted staff by email. There’s no lift, only stairs, and our room was on the top floor, which was difficult with luggage. We also found a wet patch outside the room and didn’t know why it was there at first.

The only thing going for this place was its location near the start line of the BTS Ultra marathon. The room was extremely dirty, the ceiling leaked all over, the toilet was dirty, there was no sink, and the bed had cigarette burns. When a guy came to fix the hot water in the toilet, he left dirt marks all over the room and came in smoking a cigarette. I’d give it negative 10 if I could. This place was absolutely horrible and, with total certainty, completely ruined my Bromo trip. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

I’ve been travelling around Indonesia for six weeks, and this is easily the worst place I’ve stayed. The front desk seemed to be unmanned all the time, and it took ages to find anyone. The staff were pretty useless throughout our stay. Our first room was grim. Leaking pipes left water all over the floor, it smelled awful, and the bed was stained, so we slept in our sleeping bags. There was no basin or hot shower water. On the second night we moved to a slightly better room, but it had no bathroom. The shared one was hilariously poor: after flushing, the toilet took about 20 minutes to refill, so good luck if you need to go after someone else on the floor. Toilet paper was scarce too. Wi-Fi was decent on the first or second floor, but forget it higher up. I know Bromo isn’t known for accommodation standards, but I’m pretty sure there are far better places to stay.

It was very cozy, and the whole floor stayed cold even in the afternoon when the sun was pretty hot. There’s hot water, though the wall plugs aren’t placed very conveniently.
