The restaurant food was great, but we were also given dirty cups there. The rest of the stay was much harder to enjoy. Knocking started around 7:30 PM and continued until midnight, making sleep difficult, and the bathroom problems took repeated effort to sort out. When I turned on the faucet after arriving, the bathroom partly flooded because the drain was clogged with hair and debris. I called reception several times without an answer, so I walked to the reception building to report it. The engineering team eventually fixed the drain. It seemed rooms weren’t being properly checked after housekeeping. Supplies were inconsistent too. Toilet paper ran out completely for about six hours. Reception didn’t answer when I called, so around 5:30-6:00 AM I walked over again to ask for more. Towels and bath mats were taken away without replacements, so I had to make further requests. The replacement bath mat was worn and torn along the edges, which I wouldn’t expect at an expensive four star hotel. These basic housekeeping checks, bathroom supplies, and front desk responsiveness all affected my comfort and rest. Better room inspections and more reliable replenishment and response would help a lot.

The hotel has a lush green, woody feel that comes across as naturally luxurious, and the service was good, pretty standard for the price. The breakfast, though, was rather horrible to me and needs major improvement. The drinks were the bright spot: wedang jahe (hot ginger), other ginger drinks, fairly fresh and sweet fruit, and jamu (herbal drinks). The other food options were just meh. At over 2 million IDR a night, I think you could find much better breakfast elsewhere. I paid 3 million IDR for the family suite. For that room rate, everything else felt pretty standard.

The location is the one real plus, close to Mount Bromo, so the morning drive takes only half an hour. Even so, I wouldn’t recommend the resort. It doesn’t meet its four star claims, and the price isn’t justified by the room, which was okay but not luxurious. There were only two plug points, and they weren’t easy to reach. Some parts of the hotel even looked abandoned.

The gorgeous plants and estate made for a soothing setting near Bromo. But for days, live music from the wedding function hall across the road blasted booming bass late into the night. Horeg? Our stay was destroyed.

The restaurant was a hit with us at both breakfast and dinner. We also got a lovely honeymoon welcome, with a personalised message, a setup, and cake. It’s a beautiful resort in a strategic spot for an early morning trip to Bromo to see the sunrise.
