Gamat Bay Resort

Snorkeling right in front of Gamat Bay Resort and waking up to the waves made this stay feel special. The water is crystal clear, the ocean views are beautiful, and sunsets from the property are lovely. Our dome villa was clean and pretty, and felt just right for a romantic trip. The staff were kind and always ready to help. A great choice for a relaxing holiday or honeymoon in Nusa Penida, and one of Bali's more unique places to stay.

We came away really disappointed. This was one of the priciest places we stayed in Indonesia, and the only one with “luxury” in its name, but there was nobody at reception, and the power went out every night. I know there were storms, but with that happening regularly, a generator or battery seemed necessary. The room had other problems too. There were mosquitoes, leeches all over the place, and snakes. We stuffed the gaps under the doors to keep creatures out, and to stop rain coming in. Even then, the floor flooded in the middle of the night. The bathroom ceiling wasn't sealed properly either, so rain came in while we tried to dry clothes. A lot of the non-bamboo fixtures, including the shower and doors, were rusty. Getting around was hard. The road to the hotel is very bad and gets worse in the rainy season. Swimming didn't feel safe during this season, and walking down didn't either. When it rains, water runs down some areas like waterfalls and the ground gets slippery and gives way. For dinner, the nearby restaurant is the closest option without climbing the mountain, but it has very limited hours. Dogs came into the kitchen and stayed right beside us while we ate. I'm afraid of rabies, so I left my meal halfway through. I can't understand all the glowing reviews. It could suit someone looking for adventure, but for comfort or exploring the island, it wasn't for us.

The villas were fantastic, and the main room was really comfortable. The beach nearby was quiet and pleasant, and I didn't see any bugs in the bedroom. The staff were lovely, helpful, and the service was amazing.

A great escape from city life, with lovely views and the beach just a minute away. We also enjoyed snorkeling, and equipment was provided at no extra cost. There's a restaurant next door with good food, and the staff were friendly and quick to respond. I'd definitely recommend it for a visit to Nusa Penida.
