Tarzan Marriott On Penida

The family running this place were kind, attentive, and lovely to share the space with. I was the only guest for my four nights, and felt extremely safe as a solo female traveller. I chose it because it's close to the yoga studios. They included breakfast every morning, welcomed me with delicious lime juice, and did my laundry for a fee. They also helped return my scooter so I could take their taxi to the port. I stayed in pool view room (number 1). It had a king size bed, a wet room style bathroom, a separate cupboard area, plus a fridge, kettle, and tea making station. The aircon was great, and the room was very clean. It wasn't the most up to date and showed some wear, but that didn't bother me. There were a few tiny creepy crawlers in the room, though, so this place may not suit you if that bothers you. They made up the room every day and left filtered water ready to use. The road up to the accommodation is in quite bad shape and can be hard to ride on if you're new to scooters. I got used to it over my stay. It's also very dark at night, so take it slow. The family spend all day together, which is lovely. There are three generations hanging out, so it feels very kid friendly. They chat and play music, but it just adds to the nice atmosphere. There was an electricity problem on my last day and the AC stopped working. They moved me straight to another room, room 2, and started fixing the unit. They were very friendly and apologetic. The Wi-Fi also went down at another point. A great choice if you're after a quiet place away from the beaten track, with a lovely pool to cool off in.

The place is quiet and calming, set a bit deep in from the road but not especially out of the way. Reaching it can be rough, especially at night, when it's very dark and the road is extremely bumpy. A little scary, but once you arrive, it feels worth it. There are just six rooms around the pool, which is cleaned every day, and breakfast was good. The staff greeted us warmly and patiently. They were thoughtful and friendly, chatted and had fun with guests, and made us feel at home wherever we were from. They kept an eye out when we came and went, and seemed aware of what was happening around the place. It's an island, not a bustling city, and the island can have power outages. Bringing a small flashlight or portable fan is a good idea. During one outage, staff came to our room to apologize even though it wasn't their fault, which was kind of them and we understood. My father and I loved staying here and hope to return for our next holiday. Thank you so much!

The service was the friendliest, and we enjoyed our four nights here. The room was very clean, though I was a little disappointed that they didn't clean it unless we asked. We tried almost everything on the restaurant menu, and it was all amazing. The pool was big and clean, the surroundings were quiet, the food and drinks were great, and the staff were excellent. I hardly have anything to complain about beyond a few things: the toilet smells when you use the sprayer, getting around is difficult without renting a motorcycle, and the small access path through the bamboo is dark.

The hotel is nestled in nature, and the friendly staff made for a good experience. It's about a 10-minute motorcycle ride from the port, with a restaurant and supermarket nearby. Parking for motorcycles was adequate, and the breakfast had a good, tasty mix of local and international choices. I can recommend it for the price. The side road from the main road was in poor condition and didn't have enough lighting. Rooms have been recently restored, with new beds and furniture, though there's no wardrobe. The balcony area outside each room is a peaceful place to relax. A hair dryer in the rooms would also be useful.
