I planned a short visit but ended up staying two weeks. The people who run this family place are lovely, and they shared lots about the community's spiritual ceremonies and culture. Each bungalow has a roomy veranda set in a garden with Hindu decorations. The rooms are on both sides of the street, and there's a pool that's fine for swimming even if it's not large. My favorite touch was the half-open bathroom, which made showering feel like being out in the garden.

Good value for a one-night stay. The room was clean and roomy, and the staff were very polite. The bed felt a little too firm, though it was fine for one night. The main discomfort was the heat. The room stayed warm, and the air conditioner couldn't be adjusted, so it blew very cold air straight onto the bed. In Bali I usually sleep without AC, so I was surprised it got so warm. All in all, an average stay.

In the quiet village of Batununggul, The Box House Nusa Penida is an affordable guesthouse just a few steps from the sea. Batununggul Rastafara Beach and Sampalan Beach are both about a five-minute walk away, making it easy to enjoy the island's natural scenery.

The host was helpful and friendly, and breakfast can be arranged at the property in advance. The hut-style room was very nice, with its own bathroom, though that bathroom has no roof, so consider the privacy if that might bother you. The beach is close, around 50 meters on foot. There aren't many vegetarian places nearby. There was just one Indian restaurant within 2 km.

We hired bikes for IDR 70000 a day and booked a Snorkeling trip through the property for IDR 300000. Both were worth it. Breakfast was a decent portion with coffee or tea, and the staff were friendly. The garden is beautiful, and the clean rooms are simple but have what you need, including aircon and a TV. The location is handy for restaurants. Just keep in mind that power cuts can affect large parts of the island for quite a while sometimes.
