The receptionist helped us with our packing, which I appreciated. Breakfast at 6 am was rice cake with jackfruit soup in coconut milk, nicely spiced and quite tasty. But they didn’t have plain bread and jam for nonlocals who might want something besides coconut milk dishes and sambal lado. We had Melati Room #4 on the lobby level. It had three single beds, an inside bathroom, and lots of floor space. The hostel’s location works for families or backpackers stopping over. The room felt damp and moldy, so freshener and new paint would help. I was also worried about the bathroom bulb needing repair. The standing reading lamp beside the toilet isn’t suitable on a bathroom floor near water, especially if there’s a leak. Someone could get electrocuted.
