Hotel Padang

The hotel is really clean, and the in-room WiFi is strong. Being in Southeast Asia, though, you might come across ants or mosquitoes. Most of the staff are friendly and quick to help. Reno at the front desk stood out, always welcoming and smiling, and happy to answer all my questions. I appreciated how professional he was. I like the old-school colonial feel, so this place was an easy choice for me in Padang. If I come back, I'd stay here again.

Room 11 faced the garden, and the seats outside the room were a highlight for me. The sofa and chairs are comfy, good for relaxing or having a cigarette. When it rains, the garden feels especially peaceful. Even in the cheapest room, that little seating area beats the fancy facilities at the big chains I've stayed in, like Ritz, Oakwood, Marriott, and Kempinski, which I never used anyway. Despite being an older hotel on a main Padang street, I slept peacefully without the noise getting into my room. I keep coming back for the location too. It's in the business and government offices district, with most of my favorite places in Padang within 2 km. The price is probably the cheapest around there, and I think it's undervalued, which is a big part of why I'm a regular. I only need a hotel for sleeping, and this one suits me. I've stayed at Truntum, Daima, Ibis, Basko, Whiz Prime, Bumi Minang, and Axana as well, but I prefer this one. I haven't tried Santika yet, maybe next time. Hot water is reliably available around the clock here. At some of those other hotels, I've had showers at 10PM with no hot water, but that hasn't happened here.

The check-in went smoothly, and the staff were really attentive. I'd booked this local business after reading good reviews, and the location and colonial building appealed to me. It was jolly season and the hotel was full. I was exhausted from traveling all day, so I paid an extra 50k rupiah on arrival for breakfast for two. Great service, keep it up.

We booked three family rooms for the six of us, two people in each. They were very comfortable, with a nice atmosphere, and one room even had two toilets.
