Kembar Inn Padangbai

Kembar Inn is an easy walk from local restaurants, shops, and the two main beaches. It’s a good choice if you want to stay amid the bustle of a working harbour and get more of a local experience. We were in Padangbai for 10 days with friends and had a superb stay. The Inn has a breakfast area downstairs, a few rooms near reception, and most rooms upstairs by a shared patio. There’s also a large book exchange case, a great view of town, and very nice staff. Breakfast was convenient, with scrambled eggs, an omelette, or banana pancake, plus tea or coffee and fresh fruit. The town noise was noticeable because of the harbour, but I got used to it and it wasn’t a big problem. The ceiling fan stopped working a few days in, though the AC still worked perfectly. I’d also suggest an air freshener for the bathroom, since the air can get stagnant.

The smell in my room was terrible, like formaldehyde, and I couldn't sleep. At 3:30 am there were dogs barking, and the odor was awful. There was no secure safe or drawers. Don’t stay in a room that smells like formaldehyde. I had a terrible night. Go somewhere else if you want to breathe real air.

The room was clean and the AC worked well, but the hotel is very simple and has no security or anyone staying overnight. Young men were setting off firecrackers right in front of the hotel until 3 am, and scooters went by noisily all night. It was really horrible, I felt sick and couldn’t sleep. 😞

The room was comfortable and nice, but there was a constant, very unpleasant sewage smell coming from the bathroom. I’d give the room a much higher score if it weren’t for that. Service, location, and breakfast were great.
