Six years ago, Barong was a good hotel: reasonably priced, clean and tidy, with a good breakfast. I stayed three times and have lovely memories from those visits. Going back after six years was a shock. The walls were dirty, the floors were nasty, and the whole place stank. Hotel guests aren’t allowed to use the elevator anymore. My wife and I were exhausted and didn’t bring the kids, so we stayed the night in disgust and left as early as we could. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend bringing your family. If you’re alone, maybe consider it only as a last option. The photos show what it was like six years ago.

The design gets 3/5: there’s a large clear window from the bathroom into the room. A curtain is provided, but it’s still kind of annoying. Cleanliness was 4/5. Service was 2/5 because I booked two nights through Traveloka, but Barong’s customer service entered only one night in their system.

We stayed while it was being renovated, but it was still quite clean. It’s a distinctive hotel in a mall, and the price is competitive.
