The food was a highlight. Līs (forgive my spelling) made some of the tastiest meals I've had in Indonesia, and they were clean and affordable. I ate with Suta most nights. Suta, the other host, also races pigeons (Merpati Tinggi). He happily told me about the sport and took me along to race with some of his friends, an unforgettable experience with amazing hosts. Baleku gets the homestay balance just right. Each bungalow gives you privacy, but you can spend time with the family whenever you like. Several quiet, comfortable bungalows sit around a small fish pond, and the fish keep the mosquitoes away. There's no A/C, but the weather is mild enough that a fan works fine at night. This was truly the best place I've stayed in Java.

The staff were so friendly, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. They also set up a trip to the Green valley and green canyon, which was amazing, with a great local guide. The accommodation itself is simple and comfortable, with a beautiful view.

They even sorted bikes for us to ride to BatuKaras. We had a really pleasant stay, and breakfast was tasty, brought out to our terrace by the lady. The hosts were incredibly welcoming. We arrived late when nothing else was open, and the man who runs the place cooked us dinner. It was cheap and tasty, and the beers were good value too.

We booked two nights and somehow stayed about 10 days. Baleku homestay is lovely, and Ciutar and Liz are the kind of hosts you hope to find. They helped with whatever we needed or asked, the food was great, and everyone working around the place was really kind. Ask Ciutar about pigeons if you want an introduction to a fascinating part of Javanese culture.

The property is beautiful, with really high quality buildings and rooms for the price. Sitting on the terrace by the lake and watching the fish, birds, and butterflies was lovely. There was a bit of a damp, moldy smell in the room.
