Grand Puncak Lestari Hotel

The one thing going for this place is its central location. It’s a budget hotel on the sixth floor of a mall, and there’s no sign showing how to reach reception. The building and rooms feel old and shabby, from the wooden bedroom furniture to the worn sofas in the hallways. Breakfast is geared toward local tastes, with no continental options. Towels are changed and rooms cleaned daily, though some towels are completely worn out. The staff are friendly and try to help with whatever you ask. I stayed two nights, then moved across the street to SWISS - BELL hotel for a week. If you want a comfortable, modern Western-style four-star hotel, I found it better value for money.

The room was reasonably clean, though the hallways and shared areas need more attention. Service was okay, and for a three-star hotel I found the stay acceptable. Food quality and portions could be better.

The room was spacious, and Wi-Fi worked well in the rooms, waiting areas, and mini mall in the same building. There are large meeting halls and a shoe cleaning and polishing machine on the sixth floor. It’s in town, with quick access around downtown. The place has an old-fashioned feel. There were several problems during my stay. Tap water isn’t drinkable, had sediment coming out, and sometimes looked cloudy. The shower nozzle was clogged and the doorbell didn’t work. Breakfast had no egg station or milk, limited choices, and some dishes had too much pepper. On day three I saw a cockroach in my room and a rat in the alley on my way to the restaurant. At 6 AM there was nobody around, just plain water available. I did manage to kill the roach, though!

When someone in the room above showered, water dripped from my bathroom exhaust fan. The rooms next to mine seemed to be used as a company employee dormitory, with lots of people passing near my room.
