The scenery is the best part, with Lake Toba and Samosir Island right in front. Food and other things are easy to get nearby, and the staff are friendly. Still, during the blackout, they showed no initiative to help guests. It took about 3 hours to get the electricity back. There was no heater, just one plug, and the neighborhood was noisy. Dogs barked nonstop from night until morning. There were no toiletries, and the toilet wasn't clean.

It's a unique place, but not really good for staying in. If all you need is somewhere to sleep and bathe, it can be enough. Just don't expect proper hotel facilities. Have a nice holiday.

The Solom Jaya Hotel is close to Lake Toba and has breathtaking views. It's fairly affordable and has a good range of facilities. There's also a garden on the top floor that's great for photos. The pier for reaching Samosir Island is only 100 meters away. Hope that helps. :)

From the third floor, you can look out over Lake Toba and Samosir Island while having tea or coffee, or taking photos for Instagram and other social media. The hotel sits right on the shore, so the lake views are direct. Muslim visitors needn't worry about food, there are plenty of restaurants nearby serving halal meals. And if you want souvenirs, you can wander around Lake Toba to find lots of Batak items. This is a classic hotel, not because of its style, but because it really is classic.
