Mule Malu Tropical Stay

The mosquito net around the bed was a thoughtful touch and worked well, and I appreciated the eco-friendly approach around the property. There were quite a few insects and mosquitoes at times, though, so it would be good to have bug spray in each room. The food and drinks were excellent, and I looked forward to breakfast every day. The team kindly shifted my breakfast time to work around my surfing schedule, which I really appreciated. Seplin, Nophie, Sultan, Gilbert, Luhde, Wiwix, and the whole team were so warm and hospitable, and went out of their way to make me feel at home. Puspa gave a wonderful massage, and I slept incredibly well afterward. Both inside and out, Mule Malu is beautiful, cosy, calming, and grounding. This was the best stay I’ve had in Bali so far. The low natural light really affected the room for me. Even with all the windows open, it stayed dark during the day. The bed canopy was made from thicker fabric instead of a light mosquito net, and the one in my room didn’t seem clean, so it wasn’t comfortable to sleep under. I’d booked a 60-minute massage, but never got a reply when I messaged to ask when it was available. Then on my last morning, I woke up to a cockroach in the room. That was unsettling and had a big effect on my impression. There were things I liked during my two nights at Mule Malu, too. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, and I loved the outdoor bathroom and its tropical feel. The garden was well maintained, the pool was lovely, and the bar/common space had a pleasant, relaxed vibe. The staff were friendly. The property has charm and some nice features, but I came away feeling my stay could’ve been better.

I slept deeply and restfully, and the beds were very comfortable. The rooms were perfect, and the welcoming garden is wonderful. Staff were warm and kind, always ready to help with anything needed. Breakfast was generous, made with excellent ingredients, and prepared really well. Time flew by. Thank you all so much.

Two things made our stay uncomfortable. Meals at the restaurant were much too small, around a quarter of a normal serving, both for à la carte dishes and breakfast. We often finished still hungry and had to order more. Management should review the portions and increase them to match what guests expect. There also seemed to be power outages in the area. When the electricity went out during our stay, the hotel only gave us two candles. We had to keep the door shut because of bugs and animals outside, so there was no airflow or working air conditioning, and the room became very uncomfortable. In a popular tourist destination where power cuts are common, the hotel should be better prepared with proper emergency lights, such as torches or lanterns, and other ways to keep guests comfortable during an outage. These basic services need improvement.
