Puri Uluwatu Villas

This was apparently the first hotel ever built in Uluwatu, and it’s now under new management. The resort sits on top of the cliffs, tucked away but less than a kilometer from plenty of restaurants and shops. Our huge rooms were beautifully decorated, and the shared facilities were pretty good for a small boutique hotel. There’s private access to one of the popular nearby beaches through a patch of jungle, which was so cool, and a golf cart can take you to the others. It was amazingly quiet overnight for Uluwatu. We could hear ocean waves from our room, once the nearby hotel turned off its music around 10pm. Some areas and details are a bit run down, though the new management seems to be making a big effort to update everything. We’ll definitely be back.

The nicest hotel we stayed at during a month traveling around Bali. Our room was beautiful and had a sea view. The pool was nice, the service was kind, and staff can recommend scooter rentals that are delivered to the hotel. Good location. Highly recommended.

From the estate you can watch surfers on the Indian Ocean all day, and there’s plenty of wildlife, including monkeys, in the surrounding jungle. A walking path leads to the beaches. My one issue was all the construction around the estate. I know it’s out of their control, but I wish I’d known beforehand that jackhammering would go on every day from 8am to 6pm.

We booked at the last minute for that same day, so I wasn’t expecting much, but our stay in the honeymoon suite was incredible. The staff were lovely, as is normal in Bali. Around 8am on both mornings, monkeys came up from the valley and jungle and hopped onto our balcony. We could watch them from bed. The room looks out over both jungle and surfers, and there’s a private path through the jungle down to the beach. The location was perfect. We wish we’d planned better and stayed longer.
