The café downstairs draws locals who come to eat and spend time there. Food and drinks were decent for the reasonable prices, and although it isn’t air conditioned, the airflow was good. There are books to read while you’re at the café, plus free WiFi. You can pay by cash or electronically. I stayed in a Superior Room. It was small, but fine for two people, and clean, with a comfortable bed. The in-room WiFi was slow. There was a TV, slippers, two bottles of mineral water, and several plugs for charging below the TV and beside the bed. The bathroom was a comfortable size and clean. In room 304, the hot and cold shower worked well. Towels, soap, and toothbrushes were provided. Breakfast was included in the room rate and served as a set menu, with fried rice, fried noodles, instant noodles, or toast. Coffee and tea were available with or without milk. The rate felt cheap and worthwhile. You could book through an online travel app or message the hotel on WhatsApp. Staff were warm and helpful, payment by cash or electronic methods was accepted, and parking was available in front of the hotel. Arya Inn Hotel & Library Cafe is within walking distance of central Pematang Siantar.

The place itself was clean and neat, but the service left me upset during my three-day stay. At noon, while I was packing to leave, a room attendant came straight to me to ask if I wanted to extend my booking. I knew 12 pm was checkout, but I was still getting ready to go. The water bottle I left on the table was missing when we were on our way to the train station. I realized it, went back by online driver, and asked about it. They said there was nothing there. I was sure I’d left it on the table, so I insisted on checking the room with another staff member. I was still sure it had been there, and later, on my way back to my city, I messaged them. Only then did they say it was there and tell me to come back later. Do they think I have nothing else to do, or that I live nearby? They said they called after I left and I didn’t hear them, but they had my WhatsApp number from the booking. Why not just text? I felt there was no willingness to help or provide good customer service. I hope they hire more capable people to serve guests and maintain the business.

I spent six days at this hotel, and cigarette smoke was what worried me most. On some nights I woke up at 1 am because my boy was having trouble breathing from the smell of cigarettes coming from a guard smoking down in the lobby.

A comfortable place to stop for snacks or a meal. It has the feel of a bookstore and library, and they serve food and drinks at good prices. Enjoy 😊
