The Arizon Hotel @ Malioboro

Good, comfortable, and very affordable, with very good service. But arriving at night on a fully booked day meant I got the last room in the basement, which had a creepy feel to me. Luckily the service was great, and I was able to switch rooms for the next night.

The walk to Malioboro isn’t too far, but it’s unpleasant, along a busy street with no sidewalks. Inside, my room was cramped and dirty, smelled of cigarette smoke, and had a window that wouldn’t close. The bathroom was stuffy, fixtures were chipped, half the lights didn’t work, and everything seemed partly broken. I get the impression this place used to be well run, but they’ve stopped caring about repairs, perhaps because of the pandemic.

The room was very small, with a tiny table, and the parking area was uncomfortable. We were asleep when the receptionist called us to move our car because another car needed to get out. It really disturbed us. The location is quite far from Malioboro Market.

It’s clean, breakfast is okay, and the hotel is near the railway, Malioboro, and the palace. The reception can arrange a car and driver for a sightseeing day around Borobudur and the surrounding area, for 500k. The water could be warmer, and the washing machines could be switched off at night. If I went again, I’d take a chance on somewhere else, but I wouldn’t be upset to end up at the Arizon again.
