Man's Homestay

Pak Made, the owner, is a village leader and was very kind and helpful. His wife makes excellent fried rice for breakfast, though there are other choices too. My stay at Magus was comfortable and homey. The room was clean, with a high ceiling and good cross ventilation. The AC gets cold, which matters on hot Pemuteran days, and the WiFi was fast and stable. The clean, ventilated bathroom is semi-outdoor, with high walls and a roof that lets in just the right amount of sunlight. It has a WC, hot shower, simple washbasin and a large mirror.

The owners are nice, and it’s a pleasant place. I had a very nice room that was spacious and clean, with a lovely exotic-style bathroom. Breakfast is small and costs 50k. There are no fan rooms, only AC, which costs an extra 30k.

Pemuteran felt very calm compared with places like Kuta or Ubud. We liked our stay so much that we came back for a second one after climbing Mount Ijen. The rooms have beautiful outdoor bathrooms and the staff are very friendly. AC and breakfast are available for an additional fee.

Our room was spotless, spacious and high-ceilinged, with a large bathroom, hot shower and strong water pressure. We got to check in early, and on arrival in the heat were offered a cold orange cordial. Breakfast was lovely and warm. When our motorbike had a problem, the owner told us to relax and offered to have a staff member take it to a mechanic. There are warungs nearby, including Mie Ayam, a cheap chicken noodle place about a five-minute walk away that was busy with locals. For snorkeling, the spot is just next to Taman Sari resort. Another road near the guesthouse leads to the beach, where the seabed is exposed at low tide. It’s fascinating if you’re curious about that kind of thing.
