Sudi Homestay

The place is right on the beach, which gives you nice views, but the street is so narrow that only a bike can get through. You have to carry your luggage in on foot. We booked for 15 days, but they didn’t have availability for the full stay, so we were upgraded for two days and then had to move. Staff handled our belongings without asking while cleaning. We’d paid for the whole stay and complained to the manager, but stayed anyway. They said they’d clean the room every five days, but they changed the sheets only once during our 15 days. No room cleaning and no fresh towels. The shower had almost no pressure, so even though there was hot water, we preferred the outdoor shower with cold water. The air conditioning was so weak the room never really cooled down. Water and electricity were cut off several times, including at night. We called the manager, who came straight away, but that didn’t solve the issue. There was a fridge, desk, and fast Wi-Fi, which were good. Breakfast, though, was absolutely disgusting. The juices and coffees were watery, and eggs came on a plate full of water, leaving the eggs and toast soggy. It was only one egg, whether you ordered eggs or an omelette. I know the price is cheap, but we’ve stayed elsewhere in Amed for the same price with a really nice breakfast. We ate breakfast there once, then went to nearby cafes instead. I don’t recommend this place. There are better deals in Amed for the same price.

It was a nice, quiet place, though when I went looking for someone, it was hard to find anyone.

The staff were super friendly and kind, and breakfast was nice. My bathroom, though, wasn’t clean or pleasant, and water stayed on the floor after I showered. Maybe they have better rooms, but mine wasn’t nice.

The room had a desk, fridge, working Wi-Fi, warm water, and a nice view from the upper room. The lower rooms still have big windows, but no view, so they feel exposed and people can see in. The mattresses were hard. Breakfast was included and only just okay for that reason. The drinks were all watered down: we tried coffee, cocoa, matcha, and juice, hoping one would be different, but each tasted like little more than water. Portions were tiny too. An egg order got one egg, a sandwich came as one piece of toast, and when we ordered an egg sandwich they brought banana toast instead. It would have been better to skip the included breakfast and pay at a restaurant. One whole night there was no air conditioning or fan in our room because, it turned out, they’d forgotten to pay the electricity bill and our power was cut. At 1 a.m. we woke up sweating and overheated, and spent the rest of the night without either. The food in the fridge thawed, and our camera and phones weren’t charged for the next day. The owner said there was an electricity shortage, but the other rooms had power and the girl working that day told us what had happened. We didn’t get a discount or anything for that night. They paid the bill the next day and the power came back, but we lost a whole night’s sleep and a day afterward.
