Villa Rumah Bromo

A good base for visiting the Bromo crater, with tasty complimentary breakfast. I'd recommend it to mid-range budget travelers. WiFi reception can be a bit spotty in some rooms.

There were lots of flies in the room, and the blankets were so thin we had to wear a lot to sleep. The owner seemed nice, but the driver they found for us was a liar. He charged us 550k for tickets without giving a receipt. We checked with lots of visitors, and none had paid that, only the gate fee, but the owner and driver still insisted we pay. The drive to the mountains had already cost 700k. We felt they cheated us because we're foreigners, and the experience was unpleasant. I'd seen lots of good comments, but after this I wouldn't recommend the place to friends, especially non-Indonesians. Be careful.

Be careful booking through WA. I booked for jazzgunung, which was unfortunately cancelled. The admin didn't notify or warn me as the date got closer. A couple of days before, I asked about the booking and found they'd cancelled it, including my down payment, without confirming with me at all. When I said I'd review the experience, they blocked me right away. Such a shame.

The people were super friendly. We got free food during our three-day stay while checking out Bromo, and always enjoyed a nice chat with a beer in the evening.
