The hotel has a heritage feel, and the staff service is excellent. I hope to visit again.

For a small city, this is an excellent spot to rest after a long journey. The hotel feels like a great three-star stay. The toilet and towel were clean, the hot shower worked, and there was a fridge and hair dryer. The aircon kept the room cool, and it also had a cabinet and drawer.

The breakfast was horrid by Western standards. The place also seemed badly run, though the staff did try their best. There was no hot water.

The room felt well worth the price, with a comfortable mattress and pillows. It’s a relief to find a West Sumatra hotel where the AC and hot water both work properly. The location is handy for walking to tourist spots, and the area has old Dutch buildings around it. One downside: there weren’t enough guests for a breakfast buffet when we stayed, even though breakfast was included in what we’d paid. They brought nasi goreng to our room around 6:30 in the morning instead. Ask ahead whether they’re serving a buffet, since there are plenty of good food stalls nearby.
